Introduction

Initial page to help us capture the hot/important topics to be covered in the OpenECU tuning guide. For list of maps available for tuning in your Newage Subaru refer to the ECU Map Identification article.

Brainstorm

Both the following pieces of software need a defenition file to work properly. This tells the software where in the ROM file the appropriate maps lie. Each different ECU and model year has it's own structure hence the need for this defenition file.

You can download the latest defenition files from the appropriate web sites, which are linked to below.

Below is a collection of notes which will be split in to separate pages/articles over as the structure of this article takes shape.


There are two main utilities available to edit the Subaru ECU ROM file, which is retrieved via ecuExplorer or ecuFlash via the OpenPort 1.1 OR 1.2 cable from Tactrix. For the Drive By Wire ECU's you need the OpenPort 1.2 cable. These two utilities are namely ECUEDIT and RomRaider. Once edited, the ROM file can be rewritten back to the ECU again using ecuExplorer or ecuFlash.

Low Det Fuel Map

Used during open loop operation, this map is used when the system has not experienced high levels of detonation. Higher value represents leaner AFR and lower value a richer AFR.

RPM vs Load calculated from mass of air in cylinders.

(what does the IAM need to be at to use this map? 16?) (Does STFT and LTFT affect this map's AFR?)

High Det Fuel Map

Main Ignition Map

Values represent number of degrees BTDC (Before top dead centre).

RPM vs Load calculated from mass of air in cylinders.

If any timing corrections are made, this is the reference table.

Are these values added onto the Main Ignition Map values depending on the IAM?

Max Wastegate Duty (Manual)

Manual Transmission

These values are the % duty cycle the boost control solenoid. The bcs is used to bleed air away from the wastegate actuator which keeps the turbo's wastegate closed longer, increasing boost.

Automatic Transmission

These values are the % duty cycle the boost control solenoid. The bcs is used to bleed air away from the wastegate actuator which keeps the turbo's wastegate closed longer, increasing boost.

Desired Boost (Manual)

Manual Transmission

These values represent the target boost levels (psi) in relation to engine RPM and TPS.

Automatic transmission

These values represent the target boost levels (psi) in relation to engine RPM and TPS.

Timing

Values represent number of degrees BTDC (Before top dead centre).

I did notice that after changing the boost values via the ECUEDIT software, it not change these values when the same ROM file was loaded into RomRaider?? So does it alter the manual or auto table?

Engine Parameters

This is for disabling CEL lights for particular sensors, eg. the EGT.
