A boost gauge is used to measure the increase in pressure created by the turbo in relation to atmospheric pressure (1bar / 14.50psi). Anything above this value is considered ‘boost’.
This should not be confused with Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) as this value includes the atmospheric pressure (if boost was 1.2bar / 17.40psi, MAP would read 2.2bar / 31.90psi).
There are a variety of boost gauges available displaying boost in bar, psi or kPA.
The majority of gauges only display boost, however there are some higher spec gauges available that include an over boost warning notified by an LED and sometimes a buzzer too.
