Tips for Removing Caliper Bolts
- Clean head of bolt with wire brush
- Spray with WD40 or Wurth Rost Off Ice PDF Spec Sheet
- Best tools to undo caliper bolts - impact driver or cracker bar
- When undoing the bolt, it should crack and become loose. If the bolt feels tight whilst undoing stop immediately as the bolt will most likely shear.
- If using an impact driver and the bolt is not undoing, try tightening the bolt with the driver, then undoing again.
- Use more WD40 or Wurth Rost Off Ice!
- When replacing the bolt, check the thread has not stretched (overall thread diameter looks thinner when looking from side). If it is stretched it can still be fitted but replace with a new one as soon as possible as it will only be harder to get out next time!
- Put a small smear of copper grease on the thread when replacing (be careful not to over tighten as it will be easier to with copper grease on)
